News in Midsomer Norton and Radstock

In his latest column for Nub News, the MP Jacob Rees Mogg writes:

Recently, an article appeared in the Somerset Guardian about some of my constituents who have made an appointment at my surgery to discuss certain issues affecting them and upon which I declined to comment.

Nub News released a report last night which stated, the Town Council had agreed to increase the precept, your council tax by £1.87 per week a total of £97.19 a year.

Midsomer Norton Town Council can confirm that the figures quoted were incorrect and were in fact the total weekly and yearly figures, NOT the increase as stated in the article.

Midsomer Norton's Wellow Brook walk is a haven for wildlife, but as councillors heard at the town council meeting, not all of it is welcome.

The area has become more wild since the livestock were taken off, but now there are plans to make the path less muddy and open up the flattest part of the greenery as a possible picnic area.

A health watchdog is calling for tougher scrutiny of a £70 million community care contract in Bath and North East Somerset, after receiving 'worrying reports' of staff shortages having knock-on effects on patients.

Protect Our NHS coordinator Pam Richards said it was "deplorable" it had taken three years to get information and reassurances from Virgin Care.

A generous good donor, who wants to remain anonymous, has given a new oven to the local Midsomer Norton scout group who had theirs stolen at the weekend.

So now the group, which meets on the High Street, is fundraising for a secure door which they hope will deter other thieves.

Anyone who doesn't have a GCSE in these subjects in a C or above is eligible for free classes at the Somer Valley Campus.
