West of England housing association Curo raised a total of £11,852 for their Charity of the Year, Time is Precious.

Curo colleagues organised fund-raising activities to raise money for the charity, including sponsored hikes, naming Curo vans, quizzes, a cycle challenge and a charity raffle with prizes donated from 66 local and national businesses.

Ten new native coppice trees have been planted by Thatchers Cider as part of the Queen's Green Canopy campaign to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee.

Martin Thatcher and his daughter Eleanor Thatcher planted the trees, which are accompanied by a commemorative plaque, alongside the popular Strawberry Line and adjacent to the family run cider mill at Myrtle Farm in Sandford.

A project to tackle a shortage of HGV drivers has been approved today (28 January ) by the West of England Combined Authority led by Metro Mayor Dan Norris.

Metro Mayor Dan Norris was responding to an estimated shortage of between 76,000 to 90,000 HGV drivers nationwide. The pandemic has meant 30,000 fewer HGV drivers taking tests on the previous year. But the problem has been made worse by Brexit. The UK is now a less attractive location for overseas drivers, due to increased bureaucracy at UK borders.
