Passionate plea to B&NES to stop the development at border which will just increase traffic

By Susie Watkins 16th Sep 2022

No pluses and lots of minuses.

The debate over more housing just across the border of Midsomer Norton at Underhill Farm will overpower the roads, increase safety concerns for local school children AND not put a penny in the B&NES bank in the way of council tax.

That was the planning committee heard from Cllr Hughes at their last meeting in Bath. " It would be a backward step in our attempts to tackle the climate emergency. Silver Street has already exceeded its capacity, quite often this road and the junctions it services are gridlocked. "

The edge of B&NES is around the 'S' bend at the Rugby Club and Cllr Hughes told the meeting: " It is blatantly obvious where B&NES finishes and Mendip begins. You can tell purely by the condition of the road. Once you leave B&NES... the road is poorly maintained, it lacks pavements or if they are there they are poorly maintained.. it generally a very dangerous junction."

You can watch and listen to his arguments, at around 14 minutes into the You Tube channel, which he then took on to Midsomer Norton Town Council at their regular meeting.

Midsomer Norton Nub News was at the town council meeting with a report on that AND how much is being spent on the Town Hall revelations HERE

That was on September 5 but the minutes of the meeting do not record any public comments.

The planning details are under the Mendip planning site: 2022/1427/FUL | Demolition of no. 26 and 28 Orchard Vale and development of 60no. dwelling houses with open space, landscaping and associated infrastructure. | Land At Underhill Lane Ston Easton Radstock.

The Ston Easton Parish Council has reserved its decision on the application, but in its comments, it asks for :

Education contribution to be discussed with B&NES.

The basis of the allocation of affordable or shared ownership homes.

Waste and recycling collection.

Medical provision
