Children at Shoscombe Church School have been busy learning about the transatlantic slave trade through studying the work of African and Caribbean artists, musicians and architects.

Their research inspired print designs with children of different ages using a variety of print techniques including lino, batik and fruit printing as a medium for their ideas.

All of the completed artwork has been displayed on a large globe.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: "During our recent Art Week all of the children's printmaking was scanned, printed, torn and collaged onto the large globe. The torn pieces are small fragments of us all, carefully placed and glued together to form a reimagined world.

All of the children explored their ideas with local Hip Hop Artist Blaise. He drew together the children's ideas to create a rap with the lyrics are displayed at the bottom of the Globe. The globe is symbol of our reimagined world where we are unified and where we can all say: I am seen."

The project links to the school's 'Build a Better World' Erasmus project which has been funded by the European Union.

This initiative is being coordinated The World Reimaged, and the globe will be on display from 13th August – 31st October at St Paul's Learning and Family Centre, 94 Grosvenor Rd, St Paul's, Bristol BS2 8XJ. For more details visit www.theworldreimagined.org

The World Reimagined is a ground-breaking, mass participation art education project to transform how we understand the Transatlantic Slave Trade and its impact.
