Westfield Councillor inundated with calls to get the tip re-opened : Residents threaten not to pay

By Susie Watkins 6th Jul 2020

A local Westfield Councillor says she has been "inundated" with calls from residents demanding the local recycling centre is re-opened.

Cllr Pat Williams, who is responsible for environmental issues, says the phone has been ringing pretty much constantly for the past ten days.

The councillor says that many of the callers have threatened to withhold their community charge for next year unless the Welton site is opened.

She told Nub News: " During the past ten days or so I have been inundated with phone calls from residents. I have used this centre for many years and I am sure safety measures could be put into place.

"Residents are saying if this facility doesn't soon reopen they are considering withholding part of their Community Charge for next year and even worse will consider fly tipping, which would be horrendous."

The local Paulton Councillor Grant Johnson has appeared on Radio Bristol being interviewed about his campaign to get the site open.

There are unsubstantiated rumours that it will not re-open until September at the earliest.
