Jacob Rees Mogg writes:

This week, the Health Secretary wrote to let me know that half of all adults have now been vaccinated with second dose and three quarters of all adults have received their first jab.

In short, this means that 27 million people have now received both vaccinations, which is the strongest possible protection against Covid-19 and represents more than 50% of the United Kingdom's (U.K.) adult population.

Over 40 million people in the UK (more than 75% of the adult population) have received their first dose of a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine, as the UK's vaccination programme continues at pace. From 8 June 2021, vaccines be offered to twenty-five to twenty-nine-year-olds, who will receive text messages asking them to book their jabs.

This is all in tandem with the approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech immunisation for twelve to fifteen year-olds, an extension to the current U.K. approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine that allows its use for younger people having been authorised by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (M.H.R.A.). This follows a rigorous review of the safety, quality and effectiveness of the inoculation in this age group by the MHRA and the Government's independent advisory body, the Commission on Human Medicines (C.H.M.).

Even though the immunisation programme is making considerable progress, we must all ensure that we continue to take responsibility for our own health. This is why the Government has urged all secondary school and college students and their families to take a coronavirus test before returning to the classroom following the half term break. These tests are free on the N.H.S. – details of how to obtain them can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests
