Anyone walking past the iconic building in Radstock, will not have failed to hear the hard at work students at Sue Hill's school of dance, which, resonates with the sounds of dedicated students working through their routines.
What they may not realise is that many of them are part of a full time college course, with 60 full time students who have travelled from as far away as Greece and Germany, such is the pulling power of the name of this well-established school. The school is where Game of Thrones star, Maisie Williams began her dancing steps and that the son of Sue Hill set out from here to train for eight years at the Royal Ballet School, before working across Europe as a professional dancer.
George Hill is now the artistic director of the BDC Bath Dance College which flourishes under the Sue Hill roof and has had students coming from all over Europe to follow their dreams of a professional qualification in performing arts. Some will go on to carve out careers in the creative and associated industries, with, it is hoped, a nostalgic love of their early training in Radstock.
But the creativity does not end with the students. Sue Hill also runs a thriving talent agency, with several names already lauded as ones-to-watch, who have either come via Radstock, or have been spotted elsewhere and have shown star quality.Sue Hill, who is modest about her star-spotting abilities, is even handed in her praise and wants her pupils to find joy in dance, whatever the level. Sue said: " Some of our dancers will go on to the West End, others are part of other entertainment groups and others just dance for fun with a large range of child and adult recreational classes. We are proud of them all. One of my loveliest pupils has gone on to manage other dancers providing entertainment for a large holiday company, and she is so happy - we are so happy for her. "
Their remit is simple to ''provide opportunities for all within the world of dance', so while some are just happy to dance regularly, for their own enjoyment, whatever their age, others have ambitions further afield. You can see for yourself the immense variety of dancing ages and levels from the Radstock school with their showcase - A New Decade' which is on in Bath on Friday February 21st and Saturday 22nd at The Forum, Bath. From musical theatre to ballet, tap to contemporary, the showcase features over 350 performers, from the smallest ballerinas to students about to graduate.
There are performances at 2pm in the afternoon and again at 7pm tickets from Ticketline or in person at the Box Office (cash only) who are advised to check availability in advance by contacting the Venue on 01225 443 114.For more details about Sue Hill Dance see the red button below.
