Bath College update, no date yet set for face to face return but some amazing courses on line

Bath College is still waiting for a date to return to face to face teaching. In the meantime, their online course provision has evolved to cover employability as well as confidence and skill building courses. Here with all the details of some incredible courses on offer:

Get that job! 10-12.30 Fridays, April 2nd, 9th and 16th

2.5 hrs x 4 sessions - lockdown need not be a barrier to job hunting! We will cover CV writing, online job sites, types of work and jobs, training options, ways to build your CV and experience, staying motivated and building confidence. Run by an approachable and warm tutor this engaging course is for anyone who is job hunting, or wanting to make a change.

Catching Confidence - a 5 session course across 5 weeks which can help you with finding a new direction.

You will be:

-Planning ways to make realistic positive changes and to recognise your transferable skills

-Making a plan to address the areas you need to work on in order to feel more positive and confident

-Learning techniques to clearly and confidently demonstrate your skills to others

-Feeling good about yourself and self-promotion

This course is run in a mixed group and led by an experienced and supportive tutor. It is being run online on Tuesday mornings from 10-12 from the 16th of March until the 13th of April.

Courses are free to anyone over the age of 19 who is not currently in work, claiming benefits or earning less than £18,525 per year.

RSPH Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene

Are you looking to gain a qualification while you're on furlough, or to help you find a new job once lockdown is over? The RSPH Level 2 in Food Safety is a widely recognised qualification and well regarded within environments in which food is handled.

Usually taught face to face, the course has been adapted to allow it to be delivered via Zoom. Therefore an internet connection and suitable device will be required. (please let us know if this is a problem and we may be able to help you).

It is taking place on the 15th, 16th and 17th of April from 09:15-12:45 and a short exam will take place in the last session in order to obtain the qualification. Photographic ID will be required for this.

Drawing and Painting Animals Art Course

If you're at home on lockdown and feeling a little isolated, and would like to join in a course with our friendly tutor to develop your art skills (all levels welcome!) please find the information as follows:

Drawing and Painting Animals

Mondays 13:30 - 15:30

March 15th, 22nd, 29th. April 12th, 19th, 26th.

This course is being delivered via Zoom so a suitable device and internet connection will be required. A list of materials is below - please don't worry if you don't have everything!

Materials needed for art sessions: soft brushes – round and chisel, bristle brush, water, watercolours, black ink, palette, pencil, rubber, masking tape, scissors, watercolour paper or mixed media paper, (A5 or A4) white wax crayon or candle, paper towel, HB and 2B Pencils, charcoal. Hair dryer to dry watercolour painting.

Please note that this course is limited to 10 people as an absolute maximum, so we will be operating on a first come first served basis, and everyone else will go onto our waiting list should a space arise.

This course is free to anyone who meets the following eligibility criteria:

-Over the age of 19

-Unemployed, on benefits or earning less than £18,525 per year

-A resident of B&NES

-A resident of the UK for 3 or more years

Creative Writing with the Roman Baths

The four-week creative writing course is designed to give you the opportunity to lose yourself in your imagination. Looking at poetry, letter, and diary writing, as well as short stories, the aim is for you to produce one or more pieces of work to be published on the Roman Baths website. Each week, the Roman Baths' workshop leader, David will give a talk on different aspects of Roman life, giving a fascinating insight into life in Aquae Sulis. The course is run as a workshop and there will be lots of support and discussion on how to develop your ideas to create your very own masterpiece.

This course is being delivered online and is taking place on Tuesdays from the 7th until the 28th of April from 18:00-20:30. It is free for anyone over the age of 19 who is not currently in work and is on benefits, earning less than £18,525 per year, and is a resident of B&NES.

Essential Digital Skills Qualification : Coming Soon to Bath College

We are proud to be one of the first colleges in the country to start delivering the EDSQ (Essential Digital Skills Qualification). This course will cover all of the basics of the digital world whether you want to achieve them for home, learning or work.

Designed to support adults who want to join the digital world whether for home or work, it is free for anyone who is over 19 and wants to work towards the Level 2.

It is a nationally recognised qualification taught in a small group with a tutor, and will cover transactions, communication, staying safe online, creating and editing, and handling information.

All courses are free to anyone over the age of 19 who is not in work or earning less than £17,004 per year. An internet connection along with a suitable device (laptop preferred but table or phone will work also). If you have trouble getting hold of a device, please let us know and we may be able to help you.

Enrolment must be completed using the relevant course link. On our completion of your application, you will receive confirmation and the tutor will contact you prior to the start of the course with the relevant joining information.
