Somerset Coalfield Life at Radstock Museum's Bygone Days Living History Talks are returning after two years.

The Bygone Days Team very much hope you will be able to support the new season of talks. We look forward to welcoming you all back.

"The Peterloo Massacre" an Illustrated talk by Derrick Hunt on Tuesday 1st March, 7:30pm, Somer Centre Midsomer Norton.

"The Peterloo Massacre took place at St Peter's Field, Manchester, Lancashire, England, on Monday 16 August 1819. Fifteen people died when cavalry charged into a crowd of around 60,000 people who had gathered to demand the reform of parliamentary representation."

Henry "Orator" Hunt was a British radical speaker and agitator remembered as a pioneer of working-class radicalism and an important influence on the later Chartist movement. He advocated parliamentary reform and the repeal of the Corn Laws. He was invited to be one of the scheduled speakers at a rally in Manchester on 16 August 1819, which turned into the "Peterloo Massacre."

Derrick Hunt says: "My talk will start with my interest in democracy and good government.

I will talk about the lack of representation in parliament in the early 1800s and how the Peterloo Massacre happened including the aftermath.

My unique approach is via my own family history and the shocking revelations of 15 years ago. Am I really connected with Henry? Come to the talk to find out!" Derrick Hunt.

Date for your day: "Not all Beer and Skittles" an illustrated talk by Martin Horler on Tuesday 5th April.
