Little things make a big impact - Please help save the Small Stuff Baby Bank in Radstock

By Susie Watkins 18th Mar 2023

It is often said it is the little things in life that matter.

Well this Radstock volunteer group has certainly made that a reality, and it is thanks to them that many hundreds of young families have had a big helping hand when they struggled to afford baby items.

But now the Small Stuff Bank Bank faces imminent closure unless it gets some urgent financial help.

The bank has been helping out those with small babies when ever and however possible, with everything from a nappy to a nursing set... and it also accepts donated items which may otherwise find their way into landfill.

As every parent knows, babies are expensive and they grow out of stuff incredibly quickly, so the bank was set up in 2019 to help out by providing clothes, equipment and toys.

But while in the past they have been successful in getting grants to keep up their work, volunteer and Baby Bank founder Rachel Steeper says tougher times have arrived. She said: " Since our launch we have been very fortunate in securing grants to pay for core costs and projects to further benefit the community. However, increased competition since the pandemic and the cost of living crisis means we face imminent closure. "

If you can help, with however small a financial contribution they have set up a Crowdfunder page HERE

Rachel added: " We've also set up a new Facebook page so people can offer their support, follow/like us or make suggestions if they wish. Supporters of Small Stuff Baby Bank.

" Our closure would mean the community loses a valuable resource at a time it needs it most. But also the community would also lose a convenient way of donating their pre-loved items to us and reducing the carbon footprint of these items. "

The bank is totally volunteer run and based around the corner from the children's centre, in Leigh House, 1 Wells Road, Radstock.
