4th Oct 2022 | Local News

It's the tenth anniversary of Wells Food Festival, situated in the medieval heart of Wells. It is free to enter and packed full of foodie adventures for the whole family.

More than 150 producers and street food sellers will be in the Artisan Market, showcasing the extensive range of fine food and produce that comes from the region. Stalls will stretch from the Market Place, along the Moat and into the Recreation Ground.

There are several food and drink producers that will be at the festival from Radstock and the surrounding area. These include last year's Best in Show award winner, the Happy Forager from Writhlington and the modern farmhouse brewery, Brew Yonder. And not forgetting the dogs in our lives with Radstock's specialist bakery, Four Legged Fancies, providing all sorts of natural, handmade goodies.

PLAN YOUR DAY

With the support from headline sponsor, Charlie Bigham's, this year's 10th anniversary festival is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever.

Celebration of English Wine

This successful marquee celebrating English wine is in the Recreation Ground. As well as representation of vineyards from all over the country, Ben Franks from Novel Wines in Bath will be hosting three exclusive wine tasting sessions:

11am: Wines of the West: An English Tasting, including cheese and charcuterie nibbles £15

12.30pm:  The Many Faces of English Fizz, including charcuterie and cheese board luncheon £25

3.00pm: Can England Make Good Red Wine, including cheese and charcuterie nibbles £15

Tickets available from www.wellsfoodfestival.co.uk

Fun Kitchen in the Children's Zone

The children's section of the festival in the Recreation Ground is expanding for the 10th anniversary, complete with street food stalls selling innovative hand-held meals for smaller appetites.

Fun Kitchen, an award-winning pop-up cookery school, will be on hand providing four 45-minute cookery sessions for children, aged three and above, to create Cheese and Tomato swirls.

These start at 10.30am, 11.30am, 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

The sessions are free to join in but numbers are limited so it's suggested that anyone interested should head over to Fun Kitchen marquee in the Recreation Ground early on the day and book a place..

Cooking Competition

Following the format (almost!) of Ready Steady Cook, two chefs will be put through their culinary paces in a Wells Food Festival cook-off.

Hosted by Charlie Bigham and joined by Wahaca founder and chef, Thomasina Miers, and chef-turned-charity founder, Nicole Pisani, ingredients will be provided by local producers and artisans at the festival and contestants will be challenged to create a winning recipe to showcase them.

The Cooking Competition will be in the Fun Kitchen marquee from 1 – 2 pm.

Visit the website for information on all the artisan producers and for an update on the activities at the festival.
