Midsomer Norton Remembrance parade a rundown of the service

After coronavirus curtailed remembrance services in 2020, this year there will be a return to a formal service to remember the war dead.

It will be on 14 November and with a full Midsomer Norton Remembrance Parade coming to at 10.30 am to the war memorial on the High Street and then afterwards moving to St John's for a special service.

Last year Armistice Day, was a little different because at the time

England was in a four-week national lockdown.

This year the local branch of the Royal British Legion has sent out its timetable and details on who will be attending and when.

Timings

10:35–Contingents arrive Midsomer Norton Social Club, Stones Cross.

(Cars may be parked in Welton Rovers Football Ground)

10:40–The parade will form up behind Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver Band

10:45–Parade marches to the war memorial

10:55–Parade halts at the war memorial

11:00–Two minute's silence

11:02–Remembrance service

11:10–Laying of wreaths

11:30–Parade marches to St John's Church

11:45–Church Service

12:15–Parade reforms on conclusion of the church service and departs from St John's, turning left and down the High Street to the Island and then left to War Memorial

12:30–Parade disperses from War Memorial

Order of the parade

The parade will be led by the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver Band followed by Standards and then by veterans and/or their relatives (those people who wish to take part do NOT have to be members of The Royal British Legion). Then there will be the Army contingents (Army Cadet Unit), Police, Ambulance Service, Fire Brigade, St John Ambulance and then the local Scout and Guide troops

Anyone else who wishes to lay a wreath can also come forward when called.

The Remembrance Day service is the annual act of honouring those who serve to defend the democratic freedoms and way of life. It is united across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community from Britain and the Commonwealth.

According to the details on the War Memorial site, the Cenotaph in Midsomer Norton has the names of 36 member of the armed forces who did not return from the Second World War (1939-1945) and is inscribed with 73 names of those who died in the First World War (1914-1918) .
