The mum of the Westfield marine, Ethan Jones who tragically died in training, has had hundreds of supportive messages on a charity page she was already fundraising for.

Natasha Jones had already signed up to raise money for The Royal Marines Charity by running the Bath Half marathon.

Her aim was to raise £600.

Now the fundraising has reached over £3,600 with the page full of sympathy for her loss.

It was announced yesterday that Ethan, who was part of a group practising an assault from a landing craft on Tregantle beach, Cornwall, went under the water on 21 January.

The 20-year-old was taken to hospital but tragically later died. The Royal Navy is investigating the incident.

His family said: "Ethan died fulfilling his dream and doing something he loved."

He had joined the Royal Marines in May and was in the last phase of the 32 weeks training.

The service said: "The thoughts and sympathies of the Naval Service are with the family and friends of Recruit Jones. The incident is still under investigation, therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further."

There are other fundraising activities underway with Ethan's many friends, who have taken to social media to say how heartbroken they are and to send them to the fundraising page.
