More places are being offered at one of the most popular local secondaries, Norton Hill, following widespread anger and disappointment from parents unable to get their children in.

B&NES has told Nub News that they have been in contact with the local education trust and have now secured the equivalent of another two classes of pupils.

Another 61 places will be available from May at the school in Midsomer Norton.

B&NES gave this statement to Nub News :

"Norton Hill School was oversubscribed on preferences for September 2021 admissions. Following discussions with the Trust there will be an additional 61 places available in the second round of allocations which will take place during May 2021.

"Applicants who were unsuccessful in securing a place in the first round of allocations have been provided with details of how they can opt to just join the waiting list or appeal for a place at the school.

"If parents or carers decide to appeal, their details will also be added to the waiting list. Applicants that join the waiting list or appeal for a place will be considered in the second round of allocations."

If a place is still not able to be offered following the second round, information regarding admissions and appeals is also available via the council's web page HERE https://beta.bathnes.gov.uk/how-school-admissions-and-school-admissions-appeals-work.

Earlier this week Midsomer Norton Nub News reported the overall B&NES figures for parents accessing their first-choice schools at 80 per cent, but as many parents commented on our pages, Norton Hill is very popular and many local families had missed out.
