Peasedown Methodist Church gets grant for children's play

By Susie Watkins 13th Aug 2021

Peasedown St John Methodist Church, which for many years has been providing support for children and families through play schemes and initiatives, has received a funding boost thanks to the Peasedown Community Trust.

The trust was impressed by the range of opportunities the Methodist Church provides for young children, and their parents, to explore play, meet others and take part in creative, educational activities.

Cllr Karen Walker, a member of the Trust, presented a cheque for £100 last week to Julie Winstanley, the Church's Children and Family Worker.

Karen said:

"All the research shows that investment in a child's early year's education is beneficial to them later in life.

By taking part in play schemes and pre-school learning, this hugely increases a child's chances of having a more rewarding and fulfilling career, being in better health and achieving more in their later years."

Peasedown St John Methodist Church runs Seeds on a Wednesday morning from 9am – 11am. It's a mixture of free play, crafts, stories, snacks, singing and dancing. Seeds is open to all pre-school children and their parents or carers.

Julie Winstanley, Children and Family Worker at Peasedown St John Methodist Church, added:

"The children and families work at Peasedown St John Methodist Church builds and nurtures relationships with children and their families by offering friendship, care and support through its activities.

As social distancing guidelines have eased, we have been delighted to be able to meet families in person again.

In order to facilitate outdoor activities we hope to provide equipment suitable for this such as garden games and outdoor seating/mats.

The grant money from the Trust will go towards equipping the garden for future outdoor meetings and activities both now and in the future."
