Somerset Highways is warning drivers heading over to Shepton Mallet and Wells to drive carefully, with persistent rain for most of the day causing flooding on some parts of the network.

SCC Highways crews are on the case at reported flood sites, but say drivers need to be just that extra careful and drive with caution.

The rain is not expected to ease up anytime soon.

Local weather forecaster Kilmersdon Weather has posted a pretty grim outlook until Wednesday.

He wrote: "A very showery day is likely tomorrow with some brief sunny intervals in between. The showers could again be heavy and thundery but will move through quickly in the strong Westerly breeze.

...we have further showers on Monday and more persistent wind and rain on Tuesday before that improvement commences midweek. "

The weather has also caused some disruption in local sport. Somer Valley Sports FC has cancelled the reserves game against

Paulton Rovers FC (Res) due to the weather. Although the tie of the firsts is still on kick off at 2pm.
