By Susie Watkins 22nd Oct 2020

In planning news in and around Midsomer Norton and Radstock this week, it seems work is moving ahead in developing The Shambles.

The buildings are up the hill behind the Radco building in Radstock and have been in disrepair for many years.

An application has been put in to start demolishing the walls on the site which is on Wells Road, Westfield. Under application (20/03721/COND) the developer wants to discharge condition 5 (existing walls) of application 17/04186/FUL (Demolition of existing buildings with retention of existing east and south facades). Plans are for ten new homes and one commercial unit which it is described on the planning site, would be put to " flexible use". The classes include Class A1 (a shop ), A2 ( financial and professional services), A3 (a restaurant or cafe), B1 (business) and D1 (non-residential institutions).

Plans have been put in to B&NES for five new homes at 37 Coombend, in Radstock. Under application 20/03800/OUT they want to demolish existing buildings on the site, change of the use of land to residential and build a single three or four bedroomed detached house and four further homes as part of a terrace.

An application has been put in to fell the Leyland Cypress at 31 High Street, Midsomer Norton to the ground ( application 20/03848/TCA).

Planning decisions made by B&NES this week include:

Cameley Church of England Primary School, on Meadway, in Temple Cloud is to get three more classrooms along with lots of additional space, after an application to build a single storey extension was permitted. The school will be creating an enlarged hall and kitchen, three new classrooms, a Learning Resource Centre and putting in new toilets and cloakrooms. There will also be a new main entrance to the school and more parking.
