With Christmas falling midweek, it is going to be a difficult time for those who have medical conditions, with for some a trip to the pharmacy an absolute necessity.
The NHS has published the list of the local chemists which will be open, for reduced hours over the bank holidays, and Radstock residents are relieved to know that theirs will be open on Christmas Day itself.
Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals and as such can help you and your family with minor health concerns, offer clinical advice and over-the-counter medicines
The Westfield Pharmacy in Elm Tree will be open from 11am until 1pm on Christmas Day.
The map shows in yellow the places open on Christmas Day, the blue Boxing Day openings. The Shaunaks Chemist in nearby Peasedown will be open on Boxing Day from 11am until 2pm. The Green addresses hi-lighted are the pharmacies open on New Year's Day and Shaunaks will also be opening its doors then. The Society which offers safety advice, ROSPA, has published a list of ways to help prevent accidents at Christmas. Make sure you buy children's gifts for the correct age group and from reputable retailers, and ensure they comply to safety standardsRemember to buy batteries for toys that need them – that way you won't be tempted to remove batteries from smoke alarms
Look out for small items that could pose a choking hazard to young children, such as button batteriesKeep decorations and cards away from fires and other heat sources such as light fittings and don't leave burning candles unattended
Remember, Christmas novelties and decorations are not toys and they do not have to comply with toy safety regulations - place them high up and out of reach of young handsGive yourself enough time to prepare and cook Christmas dinner to avoid accidents that come from rushing, and wipe up any spills quickly
Have scissors handy to open packaging, so you're not tempted to use a knife, and have screwdrivers at the ready to assemble toysBeware of trailing cables and wires in the rush to connect new gadgets and appliances, and always read the instructions
Falls are the most common accidents so try to keep clutter to a minimum and make sure stairs are well-lit and free from obstacles.Full details of pharmacies opening in BANEs at https://www.england.nhs.uk/south/info-professional/pharm-info/pharmacy-opening-hours/
