Dorothy House invites local people to come to its annual Light up a Life Services to remember loved ones at Christmas. Eight services are running between 21 November – 9 December across Bath and North-East Somerset (B&NES), Somerset and Wiltshire. All services start at 6pm with doors open from 5.30pm.

This year, Midsomer Norton service, taking place at Midsomer Norton Methodist Church is at 6pm on Thursday 9 December.

The services are around forty-five minutes long and feature Christmas carols and readings. There is also an opportunity to remember loved ones. This year will also include a live streaming of the Winsley service held at noon on Sunday 21 November, which will also be available following the service, to watch in the comfort of your home, at a time that suits you.

These seasonal services of remembrance are part of the annual Dorothy House 'Light up a Life' Appeal. Last year this vital appeal helped the Hospice raise almost £54,000 towards providing free, palliative and end of life care to local communities in Bath and North-East Somerset, Wiltshire and Somerset. It is hoped the 2021 'Light up a Life' Appeal will once again raise this amount or more to support the important work of the Hospice.

Philly Gaisford, Individual Giving Fundraiser, Dorothy House –

''Dedicating a light on our beautiful Christmas tree is a wonderful way to pay tribute to a loved one, and at the same time support our local community. We are so grateful to anyone who considers supporting those in need of palliative and end of life care. This year's Light up a Life will be a wonderful time to reconnect with our community. I do hope that you will join us to remember all of those we hold so dear, at one of our Light up a Life Services''. Don Kennedy, Head of Fundraising Engagement at Dorothy House -

"Each year during the Light up a Life Appeal and Services, I am privileged to see the dedication messages written in remembrance of loved ones. We also see many of these messages thanking our clinical staff for their wonderful care and support. It is such a heartfelt reminder of why hospice care is so important and what this care means to our local community. This time of reflection and remembrance is invaluable and I look forward to welcoming people this year at one of our many Services of Light."
