Snazzy new look but same friendly service : Jacarandas on Midsomer High Street is back in business
The Midsomer Norton favourite, Jacarandas has now re-opened, but it is taking the new way of working step by step.
The business, which has been run by Sarah Malik for fifteen years this coming October, re-opened last Monday.
The cafe is lucky in that it has two doors - one in and one to leave by - so it can keep customers socially distanced and on a one way system.
Even so all the main staff remain on furlough, and the owner is now employing volunteers from her own family to make sure everyone is safe.
The High Street favourite is now open 9 am until 2pm - for takeaway only service, but they are still working out which days are best.
Sarah said; " We were really pleased to re-open - everyone was really pleased. We are busy and usually open seven days a week, but we need to work out a new way of opening and haven't yet decided which days, it is a bit of a shock.
" I have four boys and they have all been taking turns to help me. Obviously they are just volunteering and because we are all living in the same house we haven't got to worry."
But the staffing team will be coming back, with the boss already having ordered face masks and visors for them in the same distinctive colours of the new-look cafe.
As Nub News reported here: Midsomer Norton Nub News
the cafe was re-decorated during the lockdown by local decorator Peter Chivers. Sarah wanted to thank everyone who continues to support them: " Thank you to all our customers for their support and thanks for coming back in. A lot of our customers are elderly so we are pleased that they can come and get a coffee and a cake and they can see a familiar face, it's lovely to see them."
