The weekly column from Jacob Rees Mogg MP: Local plans for Keynsham

The Midsomer Norton MP writes:

Recently, the chief executive of Curo, Victor da Cunha, wrote to me with an update about the housing association's current plans for Tintagel Close in Keynsham.

Following surveys and a consultation with the residents who would be directly affected, Curo came to the conclusion that it would be best to demolish the existing homes and build new ones. In doing so, this would meet both future building standards and the expectations of its residents.

Curo is currently supporting people to move to new homes with twenty-two households having already been rehoused in suitable properties and it estimates that the remaining residents at Tintagel Close will be able to move into a new property in or around December 2022.

Mr. da Cunha is optimistic about the progress that has already been made and has, therefore, launched an 'in principle' consultation to obtain views from local residents and stakeholders in order to gain some understanding about their priorities for new homes.

The chief executive also confirmed that officers have met Keynsham South ward councillors as well as the housing associate director for B&NES to talk about the redevelopment of Tintagel Close as a well-integrated, affordable housing scheme with modern, energy-efficient homes.

The online survey will stay open until Sunday 5th June and over the next few months Curo will be using this feedback to help it draft its proposals. Later this year it will engage once more with the local community to consult on the proposed development plans with a view to finalise a planning submission early next year.
