Churches in the villages of Peasedown St John, Wellow and Foxcote are giving villagers the opportunity to celebrate and remember the lives of loved ones who have passed away.

On Sunday 7th November, churches will be holding special services where the names of those who have died will be read out and there will also be an opportunity to light a candle for a loved one – along with quiet prayer and personal reflection.

The Leader of all three churches, Revd Matthew Street, said:

"Bereavement is a painful experience. This act of worship aims to give thanks to God for the lives of our loved ones and to provide us with an opportunity to receive the comfort and healing we need when pain and sorrow is acute.

Christ's own words "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" are words which can indeed come true in our lives.

I know that over the years the people who have come to these services have benefitted greatly. It's helped them cope with their bereavement and to feel comforted."

The churches make up the 'St J's Group' Anglican benefice, which covers the parish churches of St John's Peasedown, St Julian's Wellow, and St James' Foxcote and is named after our three patron saints.

1. am – St Julian's Church, Wellow
2. 30am - St John's Church, Peasedown
3. 15am – St Julian's Church, Shoscombe
