UPDATED: The funding has been agreed.

Mayor Dan Norris posted: " £10m of Combined Authority cash voted through. This unlocks Govt £15m cash we've secured. There will be ups and downs but we've brought Portishead to Bristol funding home." He titled his post Beeching cut reversed referencing the 1963 report which identified 2,363 stations and 5,000 miles (8,000 km) of railway line for closure, amounting to 55% of stations, 30% of route miles, and 67,700 British Rail positions.

An extraordinary meeting of the West of England Combined Authority Committee will be held to look at putting extra funding into a rail line.

The meeting on Friday 29 July, at 1pm at Ashton Gate Stadium, will discuss contributing an additional £10m to help deliver MetroWest Phase 1, which includes reopening the Portishead to Bristol rail line. The meeting will be chaired by the Metro Mayor Dan Norris and attended by Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol City and South Gloucestershire Councils who will vote on this matter.
