People in Midsomer Norton who hold very overdue library books are being invited to bring them back without penalty and enjoy their local library once more.

The council removed fines for the late return of books in April 2019 but is now inviting anyone who still has books borrowed before that date to return them from 6 January as part of a book amnesty.

This is just rubbish, but a box at the Midsomer Norton recycling centre contained more, much more

Avon and Somerset police have sent a huge thank you to the staff at the recycling centre in Midsomer Norton who showed such honesty and made a Burham-on-Sea couple's Christmas a little better than expected.

They contacted the police, who, using CCTV tracked down the family who had dropped off the box. After some investigations to ensure that it was all genuine, the couple who had visited the centre were re-united with one of their relatives savings. They had been clearing out the house and had thought it was stuff to throw away - but in amongst the things they didn't need - £15,000 in cash.

A fundraiser for The Mendip School in Shepton Mallet was all the excuse needed for a fun wheelbarrow race, the first of its kind, around Binegar today.

It was the first time the village had come together for this kind of race, which started and finished at the aptly named Horse and Jockey pub. It might date from the 18th Century but some of the costumes were a very modern take on a scarecrow. A few of the teams were definitely in it to win it, and wore trainers and shorts, while others were just happy to be there to support the landlady of the pub, Nikki Hutchison, whose son Jack attends the popular school.

Radstock is one of the UK's greatest cycling routes and is hugely popular especially during the holidays. So the police are appealing for the cycling world's help in recovering a distinctive mountain bike.

It was taken from a premises in Bath and even second- hand is worth several thousand pounds.
