Coalfield Engines Social Evening with Steve Grudgings

Steve's talk will describe the development of engines used in the Somerset Coalfield that were powered by men, horses, water and of course steam from the Tudor period onwards.

Steve will outline how methods of draining water from mines developed and some examples of Somerset pioneers in this field.

The talk will also briefly cover our work on excavating and conserving the 1791 Newcomen Engine house at Serridge in South Glos.

Please come prepared with lots of questions – Steve will endeavour to answer them all!

Location of talk: Paulton Village Hall, Farrington Rd, Paulton, Bristol BS39 7LW

Entry is free, but we would appreciate a donation of £3-4 to cover our costs.
