To commemorate the local mining heritage a special event this coming Sunday - at the wheel in front of the Somerset Coalfield museum in Radstock.
Glastonbury founder and former miner Michael Eavis will unveil a special metal miners statue to commemorate the closing of the last two coal mines Kilmersdon and Writhlington 50 years ago.
It will start the Radstock gala being held behind the Swallow cafe by St Nicholas church in the town onto until 4pm.
The metal miners have been funded by the Somerset Miners Welfare Trust, with Mr Eavis a president.
Kilmersdon coal field, which was nationalised after the second world war, as part of the National Coal Board became the last colliery to be working the Somerset Coalfield. During its later operating years, the extracted coal was transported under contract to the power station at Portishead.
It stopped in August 1973 but it was not until 2005 that the former joint-railway structures which existed at the foot of the rope-worked incline, were finally demolished.
The reveal will be at the wheel in front of the Somerset Coalfield museum on SUNDAY JUNE 4 at 11AM.
