Coronavirus cancels virtually everything : sending the main Midsomer Norton Town Council virtual on May 11

Midsomer Norton Town Council is about to elect a new mayor.
At what would have been the major, full, council meeting on May 11, councillors would have heard submissions from those who wanted to take on the role, and then put a new person in to replace the outgoing mayor Michael Evans.
Then the council will go on to discuss other matters including grant and planning applications. All the usual business will still be discussed by councillors with the public also allowed to take part, but in keeping with all meetings under coronavirus it will now be over a Zoom conference call. Midsomer Norton residents are being urged to check into the meeting.Details on what is being discussed and the numbers that individuals need to watch proceedings can be found here:
the Town Council site A Midsomer Norton resident, who wished to remain anonymous told Nub News : "I think transparency is key and that is why I contacted you. People have a right to know what they are doing and what they are spending our money on. There needs to be some form of accountability, because at the moment it feels like a very closed shop. " They added: "Sadly, its very hard to publicise these meetings at the moment, but they are very important, particularly as we need to hear what the Town Council are doing to support the community."Share:
