IN PICTURES: The Somer runners pay tribute to key workers on their annual fancy dress run in torrential rain - and a bit of sunshine
If you spotted a few more police officers and the odd medic around the area this weekend, this could be why.
Over 30 keen runners paid tribute to key workers as part of the annual Somer Running Club annual 15 mile cross country route.
With this year's theme being a tribute to key workers there were a whole constabulary of officers, quite a few doctors, nurses, and teachers and some postmen.
Awards were given to the best male and female fancy dress, whilst there were also some forfeits with runners having to carry inflatable fun items.
The start and finish point was Tuckers Grave, heading from there to follow a figure of eight route through beautiful local countryside, punctuated by rest stops at local hostelries.
The first leg was to the Apple Tree at Shoscombe, before braving the rain and the climb through Foxcote before a quick snack stop at Turners Tower. Runners then headed via Ammerdown to have lunch at the Jolliffe Arms - with the landlord judging the fancy dress competition.
It was then a short hop to the Frome Way, bathed in some welcome sunshine, before running through the back of Writhlington to run back across the fields back to Turners Tower and a second snack stop. Runners then dived down to Hemington before climbing back to the Faulkland Inn and then back to Tuckers Grave to enjoy a well earned BBQ.
You can find out more about joining the friendly and welcoming local club by finding them on their social media feed @Somer_AC . They certainly seem to find a lot of joy in running.
