May the 4th sees work begin on Cleveland Bridge in Bath

Work starts tomorrow (May 4) to put up scaffolding on the A36 Cleveland Bridge in Bath.
B&NES is warning motorists that traffic signals will be in place and to plan their journeys accordingly.
The work, which will see the bridge fully closed at some stage for up to 12 weeks, involves :
Repairs to the deck slabs (the foundation of the flat top of the carriageway)
Repairs to the masonry abutments (stone supports)Repairs and repainting of the cast iron arches and parapets
Waterproofing to prevent future weather damageInstalling protective coating systems.
The Grade II listed bridge is almost 200 years old, and was originally built for pedestrians and horse-drawn carriages, it now carries around 17 000 vehicles a day, including coaches and heavy goods lorries weighing up to 44 tonnes.
