Planning news in and around Midsomer Norton this week includes:

An application has been put in for work at Church Lane, Midsomer Norton, ( reference PP-09811534) to install a 5G mast and cabinets. 5G is short for 'fifth-generation mobile networks,' technology that will provide the underlying wireless infrastructure to support a host of new applications such as connected cars, virtual and augmented reality and

foundations for emerging smart city.

The application has been put in by a Surrey-based company Hutchison 3G UK Limited, who have opened a full consultation.

Accompanying the plans, a letter from the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, asking for local authority support for all 5G plans - detailing how the government would like to see nationwide full fibre coverage by 2033.

They have a commitment for the UK to be a world leader in 5G, with the majority of the population covered by a 5G signal by 2027. In line with telecoms policy, all six nearby schools, which include Somervale and Hidden Garden Nursery, have been sent copies of the plans, for them to respond.

In other planning news there are just two days left to comment on the application to B&NES ( 21/01656/OUT) for nine homes on a parcel of land, 3511, on Silver Street, in Midsomer Norton. This is the application for all matters reserved except access.

In other local planning applications, The Magpies, on Mill Road, in Radstock, has applied for the following tree works .

In Timsbury, at Flower And Hayes Ltd, the developers for the space on North Road, have applied to discharge condition 11 of application 20/04457/VAR (for variation of conditions 4, 5, 6, & 8 of application 19/02095/FUL ( the building of 26 homes and office space, along with new vehicular and pedestrian access and associated works. (This is a resubmission under Planning Portal Reference: PP-09817359).

In Wellow, Little Horse Croft Farm, on Ford Road (under reference PP-09753453) has applied to create a new vehicular access to the property.

In planning decisions this week by B&NES.

Conditions 3, 4, 6, 7, 9 and 10 of application 19/01784/OUT (the residential development of up to nine homes at 46 Radstock Road, Midsomer Norton ) have been discharged.

There is no objection to an application to pollard a Lime tree at 1 Riverside Mews, on the Frome Road, in Radstock.

And planners have permitted a proposed change of use from a granny annexe to ancillary accommodation at 66 North Road, in Midsomer Norton, along with the building of a two storey side extension.

Also permitted, an application to form a drive way at 8 Salisbury Road, Paulton, following the removal of raised patio area to ground level.
