Somer Valley FM - Mental Health Minute

13th May 2021 | Local News

Somer Valley FM, the local radio station for North East Somerset, based in Midsomer Norton, is supporting this week's Mental Health Week.

This year's theme is nature and the environment. The evidence is clear that access to nature is crucial for our mental health, and millions

of people discovered that during lockdowns in 2020.

Plenty of shows and features have already aired for the special week, available on demand via the website somervalleyfm.co.uk.

The culmination is on Friday, as Dom Chambers, Chair of Somer Valley FM's Board of Directors hosts Dom's Mental Health Special Brunch from 10am – 12pm. At 10.59am the #mentalhealthminute will be broadcast, which includes contributions from The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Joanna Lumley, and David Beckham.

Richard Burgess, Station Manager, said: "This is such a huge issue for our society. I've interviewed many politicians and healthcare specialists recently, who all agree, particularly with the pandemic affect, that good mental health will be a significant challenge for many of us.

"We have some young volunteers who have been very open and frank

with their reflections on mental health. It's been humbling to listen to their thoughts and feelings. We want to encourage us all to keep

the conversation on mental health going, and hopefully anyone listening in who is experiencing issues will know they're not alone, and there is support available. "
